Department BSD PED - Emergency Medicine About the Department As a Level 1 Trauma Center, the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children's Hospital provides immediate, highly specialized pediatric emergency services, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The state-of-the-art pediatric emergency facility is the newest in Chicago. It features the latest diagnostic and treatment equipment to provide comprehensive emergency care. Through the emergency department, physicians and nurse practitioners with the Section of Pediatric Emergency Medicine care for acutely ill or injured children and teens. Our emergency department is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center on the South Side of Chicago and treats more than 31,000 patients each year, including hundreds with complex trauma injuries.…
